Currently, I'm a full-time permanent faculty member in the Department of Communication at Saint Louis University-Madrid Campus (SLU-M). I returned to Spain after I graduated in 2006 from The University of Iowa, and I've been living and teaching here since then. At SLU-M, we offer a four-year program in Communication with an international emphasis.
After several years teaching, I learned that pedagogy is what fulfills me the most. Now, after 12 years interacting with students, I know this is my passion, and I consider myself fully devoted to this profession. At SLU-M, I teach a variety of courses that include Intercultural Communication, Ethnography of Communication, Communication Research Methods, and Public Speaking among others. My interest in teaching also translates into a constant effort to keep learning about new pedagogical practices and technologies for the classroom.
My research interests lie at the intersection between personal relationships and cultural communication with a specific focus on the study of language and social interaction. I've also conducted research that employed dialogical methods of discourse analysis and complemented these interests with critical investigations on the representation of immigrants and minority groups in Spanish newspapers.
